Alan | | 2:00 pmMy old boss, Hugh, is arriving in Thailand this week and will be staying for a couple of weeks. Hugh and his wife Janet have been out to Thailand on holiday many times during my stay in Thailand. In fact on a number of occasions we have went to the same areas as them for the weekend so that we can have a few beers together down at the beach.
We have been to meet them in Ko Samui once (see pic from 2004) and Hua Hin a couple of times. This time will go over to Pattaya for a couple of days and then we will go and visit Tuk and Bool for a couple of days. we may just get lucky and Tuk will have her baby around that time too.
Hugh has been doing some work in Slovakia for the last 6 months or so helping a company in Scotland make granite sinks. I think he has now finished that and is taking a well earned break before going back and working for them in Scotland. Hugh was my boss at NMB and even managed to get me an additional 3 months work for NMB even after I had been paid off as they needed me to help with the transfer of a few products from NMB to Delta, where I now work. I think it was those extra 3 months that got me noticed at Delta and I managed to convince them that I was a good prospect. Nok was also going to join Delta at that time but couldn’t after we found out that she was pregnant. It was during the first couple of months of her pregnancy that we went for the holiday down to Ko Samui with Hugh and Janet.
Think I will also try to meet up with them this weekend in BKK for some lunch or something. It has been a really good year this year with lots of visitors. First was Angie and Ryan in May, then Ewan and his girlfriend in July(?), then my mum and Bobby in Sept and last was Nicola and Dene earlier this month. There is still time if anyone feels like a trip over to spend christmas and new year with us.
Blast from the past
Alan | November 15, 2007 | 11:57 amLast week my Ex, Nicola, was passing through Bangkok on part of her 3 month tour of SE Asia. We had been talking for a few weeks prior to her and her boyfriend, Dene, arriving in Thailand and I was giving them some advice about where they should go in Thailand.
We arranged to meet up on the 7th Nov for dinner and drinks, Nok and Megan could not make it as it was a school night and Meg would have to be in bed by 8pm. We had arranged to meet at Gullivers Travellers Tavern on Sukhumvit Soi 5. At first they wanted to meet me near their hotel on the other side of town, near to Khao Sarn Rd, but it would have taken me about 3 hours to get there so i convinced them that Sukhumvit would be better for us. It took them about 1 hour to get to Gullivers, which is really good going especially during rush hour. Iwas not so fortunate. It took me over 2 hours to get from BangPoo in SamutPrakan to Sukhumvit. I think I was just a few minutes late so it was not too bad going in the end.
I hadn’t thought too much about meeting her until I got an email from her reminding me that we had not seen each other for about 7 years. In the end I spotted her within about 2 seconds as soon as I saw the back of her head.
We sat there and had a drink while we decided where we should eat, Tony Roma’s won out and was as good as it always is. After dinner we went to Bus Stop on Soi 4 and sat there until 12.30am talking about their trip, work and life. It was really good to catch up with Nic again and her boyfriend Dene is a really nice guy too, in fact they told me that they got engaged while they were in Cambodia earlier on in their trip. Congrats to them.
Hopefully it won’t be another 7 years until we meet up again.
